Not genuine messages RRS feed

  • Question

  • I keep getting the Not genuine message, even thought I removed the previous version and bought a new copy. I don't want 2007. I like 2003. I've attached the diagnostic report. I'm running it on Vista.

  • So how do I get it off? I Uninstalled before I installed the new one. Can I uninstall this "genuine software" too? Because I don't want it. It isn't helpful to me at all and is just aggravating me. The top of the report says my software is genuine. If that's not true, it shouldn't say it. If you want people to allow this software on their computers, you need to make the validation and corrective process a whole lot easier. I don't want to have to wade through 1000s of help threads to figure it out myself. I have better things to do. At this point I'm inclined to delete all my MS software and go to open OS and OpenOffice.

BTW, I never got an alert telling me you'd responded, either, even though the box was checked.

  • Hello Terry Hennessy,

The top part of the mgadiag report pertains to the Windows installation on your computer.  The report says that your Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 installation is an OEM SLP license which is exactly what we would expect to see on a Gateway MT6728 computer.

The snippet that I posted is the part of the report that shows what is going on with your Office installation.

At the moment the report was generated, your Gateway had a nongenuine installation of Office installed.  Now, reading what you wrote, I am getting the impression that you uninstalled a nongenuine copy of Office, then installed what you expected to be a genuine copy of Office, then ran the mgadiag utility which generated the report above.  If that sequence and timing is correct, it tells me that, unfortunately, the replacement installation you did just put another nongenuine installation of Office onto the computer.

If the new copy you purchased installed the Office described by the report above, then the only logical conclusion we can come to is that this new Office you bought is also nongenuine.  Was this purchase sold to you as being a retail copy of Office Professional 2003?  Can you describe the packaging it came in?  Did you purchase from a local small retailer, a local large retailer, or perhaps online from a major online retailer or from an auction site?
