  • County school board with Office 2007 VL.  Installed Office 2007 on client computer.  User attmepted to download templates for FrontPage 2003 (has done many times in the past) and received the "Failed Validation" error with reference to FrontPage.  Others with FrontPage 2003 and Office 2003 not having any problem.  Clients with just Office 2007 are able to receive updates and pass genuine advantage test. As there is not a FrontPage 2003, how can client continue to use FrontPage 2003 with Office 2007?

  • Hello esftech,

Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. The Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 & Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003 product key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. The key is counterfeit and was most likely generated by a key generator. The product key found on your computer has been detected on multiple computers. Product keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the end user licensing agreement (EULA).   You will find numerous sites where this key has been posted.  Use your favorite search engine and paste in the product key.  Below could be a possible scenario.

Please ask your systems administrator to logon to the eOpen site (https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp) and confirm what your assigned VLK is for Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 & Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003.  I would like to add one last note about the VLK used to install Office on the PC(s) in question. The VLK used is actually one of the most widely distributed (leaked) VLK's readily found on the Internet by doing a search via MSN or Google and found on most counterfeit Office CD's, thus the reason the company requested Microsoft block it.  That is why I suggest that you follow KB 895456 and use the VLK assigned to you.

Sometimes how customers find themselves in this situation is that when their IT department was creating their VL image to be deployed to their desktops, they sometimes inadvertently use an incorrect product key because it was handy.

There are other situations which can cause Windows and Office to become non-genuine. Let me give one example.  Customers have taken in their systems along with all the software received when purchasing their system. The customer picks up the system and viola' no problems whatsoever until they need to download an update or even a template used with MS Office. Suddenly their system is non-genuine. The customer's computer was not installed with their software but either a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) or a keygen’d product key. Also the software could work for several weeks, months or even a year or more then suddenly becomes blocked.

This is why you may be seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer. Also please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at: https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation, please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

    Thank you,

  • Hello esftech,

We understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing and would like to provide you with some self-help options we have made available for our customers. Please follow the steps outlined below as it could either resolve your issue or, if need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.

    1.      Ensure you log onto the computer experiencing the issue with “Administrator” rights.

    2.      Next we would like to confirm that you are running the most current version of the Genuine Advantage control on your computer. In order to do this please follow the below link and choose the “Validate Office” option.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

If the above steps did not resolve your issue lets continue with the steps below.

If you could also please follow the steps outlined below, the diagnostics Web Site will attempt to resolve the validation errors you are experiencing with Office.

    http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en

Next follow the on-screen prompts to resolve the issue if any of the checks at the above site fail. If, after attempting to resolve the issue as per the instructions on the above site fails, please refer to the link below and run the MGA Diagnostics tool:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

You will be prompted to either “Run” or “Save” the tool. Choose to “Run” the tool and follow the on-screen prompts. You will receive an “Internet Explorer-Security Warning” dialog box for the “Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool”; you must choose to “Run” this tool when prompted.

Once you are presented with the Diagnostics tool choose “Continue” to run the diagnostic report. If the “RESOLVE” button is available after running the diagnostics, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool to attempt a repair.

    1.      After running the MGA Diagnostic tool, click on the “Windows” tab and then click on “Copy”.

    2.      Please return to this post and “Paste” the results here for additional review.

Step 2 is to look on the computer itself, in the documentation you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you,

  • The FrontPage key came from TechNet and the VLK for Office 2007 came from our distributor (quite reliable- years of nationwide business in Government settings) - we did not create the image ourselves.  BUT, I am guessing that the 10 licenses that came with the TechNet product have probably been exceeded as we did not install or distribute and, thus, being blocked.

    I apprecaite your assistance.....

  • Hello esftech,

I would recommended checking your licenses for FrontPage and Project to see if these numbers match the last 10 digits of your assigned product key: BG7RQ-BBDHM.  If not then these products were not installed with your assigned product key in which case I would recommend that you or the end user uninstall FrontPage and Project and reinstall with your assigned product keys.  I am glad I could be of assistance to you, please let me know if you need any further assistance.

  • I have a validation issue that tells me that my version of office was installed with an Invalid Product Key.  My computer is a government computer on a secure domain and installation of MS Office was done for all computers using the same Installation Package.  We are running Windows XP Professional Edition (SP2).  If you can assist me in resolving this matter, then please let me know.
