Office 2007 product key not validating

Question
-
I just purchased a new dell E521 with Windows Vista Home Premium and Office Home & Student 2007 preinstaled. When I open an Office application is asks for the product key but when I enter the key on Office Install CD that came with the computer it comes back saying the product key is incorrect when it is not.

Quite frankly, I'm amazed at you all questioning him constantly about this product key!!
I have EXACTLY the same problem as this guy, and I paid for every bit of my system just like him!
It was only when I wanted to download some templates from Microsoft, that it told me I don't have a 'Genuine Product'!!!
Yet, when I do a system check, it tells me I have a genuine product with a valid product key installed.
I swear if I have any more c**p from M$ - I'm getting a Mac!!!!!

The first product key (the VLK) had already been activated when I got my computer. When it was pointed out the it was a VLK I compared it with the key on the computer's COA and of course they didn't match.
I had to use the call in activation method and spoke with someone from Micorsoft who confirmed and activated the key that came with the computer's COA. Where the VLK that was used when I turned it on the first time came from, I don't know.
The computer was new and I got it from a major retailer. The online warrenty registration from Dell also went fine.
I am experiencing some trouble with Office's validation but I am in communication with Microsoft customer service and they haven't mentioned anything about the second key of Windows not being recognized.Monday, September 10, 2007 6:06 PM -
VistaPan,
We are trying to provide assistance. There are several situations which can cause Windows and Office to become non-genuine. Let me give one example. Have you taken your computer in for maintenance? Customers have taken in their systems along with all the software received when purchasing their system. The customer picks up the system and viola' no problems whatsoever until they need to download an update or even a template used with MS Office. Suddenly their system is non-genuine. The customer's computer was not installed with their software but a blocked version of a product key. Also the software could work for several weeks, months or even a year or more then suddenly becomes blocked. Volume licensing (VLK) are purchased/issued to large corporations, governments, and schools for example in order to make software installation easier for the mass computers located within their areas. In turn if the key becomes compromised then the government, school etc requests Microsoft to block that key and reissue another key.
Vista we can offer assistance. Please Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.
Step 2 is telling us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.
We would like to provide you with assistance and are sorry you feel this way. Hopefully I have been able to provide you some insight as how a non-genuine situation may occur.
Thank you,

COA:
-The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium and the Office disk case has OEM Software on it
-Manufacturer is Dell, model Dimension E521,
-The problem is that the Office Home and Student 2007 (OEM) applications that came preinstaled are saying that the product key that came on the install disks is incorrect when I have made sure that they are the same.Saturday, September 1, 2007 6:50 PM -
I have uninstaled the Office suit that came preinstaled and reinstaled Office with the disk that came with the computer, however it still won't validate.
This is not an trial or beta version of Office 2007. I've run the diagnostic tool again but the results are the same as what is posted above.Monday, September 3, 2007 5:30 PM -
Steven,
Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation. Unfortunately, the product key used to install Windows Home Premium is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder. As a rule, VLK editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.
This is why you may be seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer. You will need to uninstall Vista Home Premium before any further complications occur from being non-genuine. As a customer there are available options you may choose for a resolution. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine. It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take. Also please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at:
https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx
First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy. Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.
Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report piracy @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx who have become victims. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided. Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices. You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs. We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. We have a 3rd party registered Cryptography lab who evaluates EVERY (really!) submission for the High-Quality Counterfeit replacement program - as they have a pre-determined subset of items they look for.
Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.
Thank you
Stephen Holm

Thanks for the heads up about the VLK I have managed to correct the issure (I think).
However my Office 2007 Home and Student suite is still not accepting the product key that is on the accompaning COA.
I have went ahead and doubled check whether it is a trial version.
It is not, here is the about page.
The exact error message says "The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and retype it."
Here is the new diagnostics:

Steven,
This is a very interesting issue which you are experiencing. We would really like to get a better understanding of it so we can better help you and other users with similar problems. Could you please submit a service request with Microsoft Product Support: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52029. Also please provide the representative with your product keys for Office 2007 and Windows. Keep in mind not to post any product keys in the forum. Once you have done that, please reply back to this post and provide the SR # generated by the service request. Please let us know if you would be willing to do this!!
Thank you,

I would like to know why you have two different Product Keys and the first Product Key has been blocked by Microsoft.
, the second also can't be recognized correctly though the validation status is Genuine.

I bought an actual shrink wrapped software of Office 2007 for Home and Students and since I've had Vista since August,
I've had to do two clean installations. This time, I can't get the key to be accepted by the computer and I don't know what to do cause I can't use it without the key. I don't know what to do, I'm really upset. Marcy Auguste
