My product key isn't working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm having the same problem. I tried to open up Microsoft Office and the laptop keeps telling me that the product key entered is wrong.

Do I need to purchase a more updated version of Microsoft Office since I didn't buy it when my laptop was purchased? I am assuming that the MSOffice software is only a trial version since I did not purchase anything else aside from the laptop.

  • Hello Bealieve,

Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office.  If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program, it is likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office.

NOTE:  Your Diagnostic Report confirms the Office is a Trial Version (Office Status: 102 = Trial)

Please review the following for additional information:

Because you're using the wrong Key! (and you're in the wrong forum - this is Windows Vista, while you should be in Office Genuine!)
AFAIK, Office 2010 only became available yesterday (Tuesday) - where did you get it from?

The Office Key is in the box you got Office in - you can't use any other key for it.

...and you could try being a little more observant.
What is the point in coming to a Vista group, when you have  an Office problem? - did you bother to read any of the Announcements, or Stickies?.

Any chance we could see the text? - if anyone in MS is directing people that badly, they shouldn't be in MS!
