Cannot add a shared folder in WHS2011 via dashboard

Question

I've tried to add a shared folder via dashboard and this only works for the drive it chooses to add it to. If I specify a different location I get "An unexpected error has occurred 80040088 - . Try this task again." Is anyone else having this issue or is it specific to my build?

Between this and another of your questions, I wonder if there might be a partition problem on your extra drive. If you look in drive properties in the Dashboard, does it show any issues? Repartitioning and formating the drive may be the solution. Can't recall at the moment, but you might need to use remote desktop for drive management functions.Friday, February 11, 2011 1:34 PM

Thanks for your reply! I did use the remote desktop to format each additional drive to NTFS with a total of 8 drives. Properties for each drive shows NTFS file system and I can move data between these drives outside of the dashboard. For me this seems to be a dashboard specific problem? I was just thinking of trying to format one of these drives within the dashboard but see there isn't an option for this. I'm looking at the drives now in the server manager and it shows a healthy single partition on each drive and NTFS?Friday, February 11, 2011 1:56 PM

The disks can be formatted from within the dashboard by going via "Alerts".
No don't ask me why! Not a location that I would have looked in for a formatting option. I was in the same predicament until I came across an earlier post that mentioned this point.
One thing about WHS 2011 RC there is never a dull moment it's like a magical mystery tour :)
