Folks, I believe I have found a solution to this problem. And it doesn't require making changes to 'last digits' (whatever that means :-) )
These are the steps:
1. Close Money and then click Start - Run
2. Type 'regedit' (without the quotes) <enter> this opens the registry editor
3. When the registry editor opens, make sure you are at the very top of the registry entries and click on 'Computer' on the top left hand side
4. Type Ctrl-F (or click Edit - Find)
5. Type 'QuoteServerURL' (no quotes) <enter>
6. After a short wait it should find a registry entry called 'URL'
7. Right click on 'URL' and select Modify
8. Make a note of what is there in case you want to change it back later. Then overtype it with the below:
'http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll/' (without the quotes)
9. Click OK and then exit the registry editor
10. Restart Money and try to update stock prices again. You should be back in business!Note: to be on the safe side, you can backup your Registry before making any changes. i.e after step 3, click File - Export - All. I didn't bother, but it's usually the recommended practice before editing registry keys.

Me too. Tried to get online quotes to update automatically but it is suddenly not working and I tried on 2 different computers that both have microsoft money. Very inconvenient to update manually. When is Microsoft going to fix this?Friday, September 7, 2012 10:30 PM

I'm using money 2002 with the same issue. They said dec 31 2011 would end online support....but I think they may have pulled the plug yesterday?Friday, September 7, 2012 11:34 PM

I am glad I am not the only one. I have been updating automatically for years and thought something was wrong in my settings. I have been using Money 2002. That was a great service to have the auto updates on stock prices. Very disappointing to learn it is being discontinued.Saturday, September 8, 2012 1:25 AM

Stopped working for me too from 06/09/12, very annoying as this was a great feature and I've been using it on Money99 ever since I purchased it over 10 years ago. One of the best pieces of software I've ever bought. Shame about this lack of functionality now.Sunday, September 9, 2012 9:14 AM

I've just run Money 2005 UK QFE2 and it has updated a share price, "Royal Sun Alliance" to be specific. But checking those prices I noticed that some bonds and trusts have not updated since July 30 which was actually a Saturday.Sunday, September 9, 2012 10:07 PM

My fund prices stopped working on 8 August.
However, I still have two shares (BP, IDVY) which are updating as normal with 20 minute delay.
Monday, September 10, 2012 9:14 AM -
Same here. Have been happily using Money 2001 for more than 10 years, but now when I go to update the share prices I get:
"Money was unable to connect to the online quotes server. Check your Internet connection and try the operation again. "
Hopefully this is just a temporary thing.

The 'last digit thing' is to do with changing the codes that Money is using to find your stock/bonds/etc on the Internet.
These are some of the codes I am now using to get data. In each case I had to add the last digit since the website now insists on the checksum being present. Previously it didn't.
Jupiter European Fund, new code GB0006664683
Jupiter Income Fund, new code GB0004791389
Jupiter UK Growth Trust, new code GB0004792130
M&G High Yield Corporate Bond, new code GB0031110405
In my opinion it is safer to try this option than to edit the registry.

Funny. Only one of my 6 stock quotes were updated after editing the registry. Happened to be the only one with 4 letters.Tuesday, September 18, 2012 12:34 AM
-
See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873204/en.
If only some of your quotes are updated the most likely cause is that the symbols for the investments not updating have changed. The only solution is to find the new symbols, often just the addition of check digits at the end. Search with the symbol you have at http://moneycentral.msn.com/, if this does not find anything follow Step 3 in the article, search by name and be sure to select the correct market and investment type.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticker_symbol and note that there are several types of symbols in use, depending on the market and how long the investment has existed. The symbol definitions are reviewed from time to time and the symbols may be updated (i.e. changed) in consequence.

Steve (Stevef1964),
The solution worked for me using 2002.
Are you looking at the "LastKey" entry "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Investor\StockQuotes\QuoteServerURL" which is what I got when I did the search.
This is not where the change is made.
Do a "find next" until you get the entry where "URL" is in the "Name" column(the left most column) and change the "Data" column to the new value.
'http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll/' (without the quotes)

Saturday, September 22, 2012 2:56 PM -
Mitch - great!
But for me with money 2002 there were two places to check the URL is correct. One is under HKEY CURRENT USER and one under HKEY LOCAL MACHINE. Both under Software / Microsoft / Investor.
I had one of these with an entry of http://investor.msn.com....... to change to your suggested entry, the other was ok. After that - fine!
And to guard against typing mistakes, copy and paste the correct entry http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll
Thanks what a relief!

Hi,
I had Money 2002 and followed Mitch's advise to update the QuoteServerURL; the portfolio started working. This week end I upgraded to Money Plus Deluxe sunset edition. The online quotes are not updating; as soon as I hit 'update online' i get the message instantly 'Update not complete' (detailed message: An error occurred while Money was retrieving quotes, news, and exchange rates. Please try again later.' (I have verified that QuoterServerURL is still good).
Should I be able to update quotes online with Money Plus sunset version? If yes, is there anything that I can check to ensure Money is not set to work offline. (Even I try to Update Now, the dialog box 'Choose Information to Update' comes up blank and the Update button is disabled. This makes me think that somehow my MoneyPlus is configured to work only offline).
Thanks
Jignesh
Monday, November 19, 2012 8:58 AM -
Unfortunately no. There are no online quotes for Sunset. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2118008
When you converted to Money Plus Deluxe Sunset, it saved a copy of your Money 2002 file as *.m10. You could unstall Money Plus Deluxe Sunset, install 2002, and copy that *.mny file to Jignesh.mny to use as your Money file under 2002. Any changes that you have made using Money Plus Deluxe Sunset will not be usable for 2002.
Monday, November 19, 2012 3:33 PMModerator -
Is there any way that the online quotes can be used on sunset using the process above?
i dont have a copy of MM2002 so cant uninstall and then use MM2002.
i did have MM2007 but this stopped working with Windows 8 so had to upgrade to sunset :(

As of 2013-07-08, this is not a solution to the current problem (Money v14 UK, funds updating, stocks and indices not). My registry already has this value set. Has it changed atain, or is it brken at the MSN end?Monday, July 8, 2013 1:58 PM -
The last digit thing fixed it for me. Bonds and shares updating OK in the UK.
Ah! This has happened again in the UK. Last full price update was 2013-07-01, stock and index prices not updating today (2013-07-08). I don't have bonds.Seems that it is still downloading prices from wherever it gets them, however the actual prices that it downloads are not being updated.
As an example;
I have AAPL US in my portfolio if I manually update the price for this on 1st July 2013 to the closing price of $409.22 and hit the portfolio button at the top of the page, it downloads a price of $407.97 and overwrites my manually entered price!
So it seems in this case that it is treating the $407.97 as the latest 20minute delayed price available

Looks like the "Investor" app running on data.moneycentral.msn.com is no longer getting market updates. After collecting a TCP conversation with WireShark, it looks like my M07 connects properly and queries properly. Unfortunately the reply does not contain updated quotes. I can still add new investments and get an online historical update, but the most current values stop on July 1st. My only hope is that an admin at moneycentral discovers the disconnect and reconnects the app to the data source.
Other than that, I'll just rely on my morning update from Edward Jones and Fidelity, and a few watch account updates from pocketsense.

From an adjacent thread in this forum, someone suggests that Microsoft have switched to Morningstar, perhaps modifying the registry fix to point the program to Morningstar would make the program update stock prices? Although elsewhere someone has mentioned hearing from Microsoft that the current issue is a fault that they are aware of, which they are working on? I would be surprised if Microsoft were devoting resources to a program that they dropped some years ago, however if the same functionality is used by their MSN web based service we may be in luck. Does anyone know any more about MSN Money and its functionality, rather than the Microsoft Money Software based program? I am reluctant to start messing with registry settings that might be not reversible, as I don't understand much about them, does anyone feel confident enough to experiment?Saturday, July 13, 2013 8:39 AM -

I have the same problem - Money not updating portfolio prices since 1 July. Hopefully Money Online Services will find a solution. I plan to keep using Money as long as possible.Friday, July 19, 2013 12:28 PM

I'm glad I found this thread. I noticed the same problem starting on July 1, 2013 - stock and fund prices are not updating. I use Money 2007 Deluxe and hope this issue gets fixed soon! Would some of you please check this out - in Money 2007 Deluxe (not sure about the other versions), it you choose Tools, then Internet Updates, then Update Now, a box comes up that says:
"Update Online Information
Choose Information to Update
Select the check boxes next to the information you want to update. Passwords and account information are encrypted before they are transmitted."
However, there is nothing listed in the box below it and the Update button below it is grayed out, so all you can do is cancel out of that screen. It used to show check boxes there before we started having this problem. It must be somehow related to this issue I assume. Is anyone else seeing this same blank box?

Same problem here, no stock updates since 1 July, however funds still seem to be updating OK.
Let's hope the problem is fixed, Money is still the best personal financial tracking package, it did everything I wanted.
Can't understand why MS gave up, I suspect most of us would have paid a reasonable annual fee to keep it going.
(In a way we already did, it was called "update" !) (Still they did the same with "Flightsim", the worlds most popular simulator program !!)
Fingers crossed !

Let's hope Ranjith and the team get it working again. I am using 2007 Home and Business and it is still a great program. I tried Quicken but returned to Money.

Might be worth chasing "Ranjith" up as we are fast approaching the end of July and are beyond the 7-10 days he quoted.
From what I have managed to discover from other posts "Invisapi.dll" is where the problem lies, apparently it sits on the server end rather than our computers.
If somebody at Microsoft could just "modify" it to reflect any changes in providers for stock quotes, we would probably have our solution!
I'm sure it is only a very minor tweak and could have massive benefits to a lot of currently unhappy users!

Unfortunately I think the reply quoted refers to Microsoft's online money facility not our software money program. I hope I'm wrong but "Money Online" doesn't sound to me like our issue and problem.
What is very strange is that my UK "funds" are all updating as normal, it is only the stocks that have stopped updating since July 1.
Be interesting to see if Ranjith responds !

I changed the URL registry entry last year and since then all funds (Canadian) continue to updatewith no problem. BUT in the last week or two the exchange rates are not updating. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone found a fix? p.s. I use the Canadian edition of Money 2000 Deluxe. Apologies if I should have started a new thread.- Proposed as answer by BozoZenobia Thursday, August 1, 2013 4:03 PM

I've sent two emails to the above address in the last 10 days.
Neither has had a response.
If you have a direct mail address for Ranjith could you perhaps give him a nudge?

I believe they have abandoned us.
That's what happens when a vendor drops support for a product.
The following is taken from the Money Sunset announcement giving details of the end of support
for the Money products.
"On Jan 31, 2011 all online services and assisted support for all versions of Money end. All Money Plus users whose online services expiration date is on or after the Jan 31, 2011 date can continue to use their existing copy of Money Plus (or older versions Money) to retain online service until the Jan 31, 2011 date. Regardless of expiration date showing in product, all online services are subject to immediate discontinuation on Jan 31, 2011."

I've sent a follow up to Ranjityh, with links to this and other forum threads, today. Here's what I wrote:
Dear Ranjith—
You replied when I wrote to Microsoft (at msnmoneyfeedback@microsoft.com, subject “New quote data pages” on 15 July to note that changes at MSN to using MorningStar for investment price updates means that your web page, http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll is no longer providing price updates to the many people still using Microsoft Money.
Please see eg these forum discussions for details

Many thanks,

When I go to the QuoteServerURL registry entry I have 2 choices: (Default) where under Data it says (Default not set) and then I have the URL which under data it already has the http://data.moneycentral.msn.com/Scripts/invisapi.dll in it. Do I need to copy that into the default part?
Thanks,
Jason

It's not going to make any difference. The Quote servers used by MS Money have been discontinued.
There are various others threads on this forum all stating the same.

what 2 places?
Just do use control f to find QuoteServerURL then click "find next" to find the second entry if you have one.
