Drive letter change option for Right folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, sorry if this was already answered, but I cannot find that requirement in the forum.

I have several disks that I use for different sorts of file types for backup purposes, all plugged as USB devices, and according to what I already have plugged in, the drive letter may change from one session to the other when I plug a disk.

    - Yesterday session exemple, plugged in this order: flash disk is in E: Western Digital in F: Iomega in G:
My Folder pair being C:\Mydata E:\Mydata

    - Today session exemple: plugged in this order: flash disk in E: Iomega in F: Western Digital in G:
My previously defined "Folder pair" will not work and I have to "Delete Folder pair" and create a "New Folder pair", the new one being  C:\Mydata G:\Mydata

    My question is:
As well as there are a "Change Action" and "Change Option" could there be a "Change drive letter" for the Right Folder (only?)

I have currently 26 different backups on 5 different external disks, and if I want to execute run "All Folder Pairs" I have to spend 10-15 minutes every time to "Delete Folder pairs" and "create new folder pairs", or remove/replug my disks to make sure that they will be taken by the system with the right drive letter.

Or, if someone has a solution, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

btw: I'm running machine 8GB with Windows 7 and SyncToy 2.1(x64)

  • Just ran a full backup, it has worked perfectly, and even, the drive letter was automatically corrected in the "Right Folder" definition.
    So Happy, Thanks a lot

  • After having posted my question, a "Related Topics" appeared on the right part of my window.

Browsing throuh these topics I found 2 answers on "dynamic drive letter support" from Joey Liand and mcNikki which nearly answer my problem.

However I execute SyncToys from the same subdirectory/files to 2 different harddisks for maximum reliability purposes with "action Echo"
ex: c:\Mypictures to D:\Mypictures and C:\Mypictures to G:\My pictures in the same "Run all pairs"

    Will that work?
    Thanks

  • Sure, SyncToy support you choose the same folder as left/right folder in multiple folder pairs.
