    Can Firefox be installed on the HP server? ( I know it's unsupported)  Any side effects?

    It's unsupported, yes. Since Windows Home Server has also not to be used as desktop replacement, there is also no real point for an alternative browser, so I was never tempted to install one.
    So I would say: Fire at your own risk.
