Migration of Disks to a New System RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a problem in that my WHS is an old system that was repurposed as a WHS.

Inevitably something failed, in this case the motherboard.  I have 2 x Sata 1tb drives and 2 IDE drives of various sizes.

My question is, if a build a new system (ie new motherboard, processor, memory, case powersupply) and install the old disks can I recover the data on them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • You can connect the disks from the old system one at a time to a computer on your network and copy the files from <driveletter>:\DE\Shares\etc. to the apporpriate spot in your shares. you could connect the drives to your server and do the same thing, but WHS is not itended to have end users logging directly in to the desktop.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
