Can't Validate - Cryptographic Errors - Resolve Doesn't Work - Registering files doesn't work either RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi - I've spent about hours today trying to resolve why my laptop isn't validating.  Here's what I have done;

    1) I re-ran validation over and over without success.  The "alternative method" leads to "Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error" with error code [0x80080296]

    2) I ran the MGADIAG.exe program and obtained the following (notice the cryptographic errors).   I tried hitting the "Resolve" button but it didn't work saying "Problems have occurred while attempting to fix cryptographic errors.  Please contact Microsoft Support.".

    Here's the dump:

    3) I tried registering the following files and rebooting - but that didn't work either

    regsvr32 softpub.dll

    regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

    4) I went to this website http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798 and actually tried methods 1-5 and 8.  Rebooted, but still had cryptographic errors.  Pressing "Resolve" didn't fix anything

    Can anyone help me?  This is a 3.5 year old dell laptop that came with XP pre-installed.  I haven't touched the OS.  Its definitely genuine.

    Any ideas?

  • Since I had those mismatched files and I notice my COA (found underneath my laptop) didn't match my Product key, I re-installed from my Dell CD and entered my COA product key, but I keep getting the same problem.

    I re-ran the authentication and the alternate method, received the same error "Validation Not Completed: ActiveX Error" with error code [0x80080296].

    Ran MGADIAG.exe program and obtained the same cryptographic errors.   Pressing the "Resolve" button gave me the same message:  "Problems have occurred while attempting to fix cryptographic errors.  Please contact Microsoft Support.".

    I re-registered those files and no improvement.

    About the only change was that now I don't have any mismatched files:
