Can't buy OneCare Live online if your IE's language setting does not match your country RRS feed

  • Question

  • I live in Belgium and we are a country that speak 2 languages: Dutch and French. I always set the language of Internet Explorer to English (US) but apparently if you then try to buy OneCare Live online you can't. The webapplication detecs that I live outside the US but it fails to let me know. I had to figure this one out by myself so after setting the language of IE to Dutch (Belgium) I am able to buy a subscription online. This is ridiculous!

  • To activate in Belgium your IE language needs to be French or Dutch. It can then be changed back. It's a rather misguided effort to prevent purchase of OneCare in a country where it is not available. Your IP address is checked against your IE language. This check does not happen if you install to a 2nd and 3rd PC and activate with your same LiveID.

  • Hello Stephen thanks for your reply. I searched the forum but did not find the post you mentioned. IMHO Microsoft should redesign the way it works now because they take a false assumption that everybody will set the language of Internet Explorer to the language of their country so I hope that someone from Microsoft is reading this.
