Synctoy MUST warn properly about copy failures! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys, been using Synctoy since version 1 and relying on it for regular backups.  So far it's been great, but recently I lost a whole bunch of hugely important files due to Synctoy _not_ making file sync failures more apparent!

Basically I ran out of space on the drive I was echoing files to, and so a large number of recent files never made it.  As Synctoy only lists failures in this tiny font in the end-of-process stats, I missed it completely - then installed Windows 7 RC on the drive with the source files, and wiped them clean off!

Synctoy _absoutely_ should throw up a modal warning dialog if _any_ files were not successfully copied, so that there's zero chance the user can miss it.

(and yes, I tried to recover the files in various ways, but I realised the mistake far too late - it took me some time to even understand what happened, but the Synctoy log confirmed it).  As they always say about security, a false sense of it it worse than none at all.
