  • Hello varun.singh,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

The installation of Office Enterprise 2007 currently installed on your Lenovo/IBM computer is a nongenuine installation of a Volume Licensed copy of Office Enterprise 2007 and this installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key.

Blocked VLK means that the product key used to install Office Enterprise 2007 was at one time a genuine product key originally issued to a business, educational, or government entity.  However, in cooperation with the original keyholder, the key has been blocked by Microsoft from further use, and that could be for many reasons: it was leaked to the internet, lost, or stolen from the entity; the entity no longer has a valid VL agreement in effect with Microsoft; or Microsoft has noticed much more use of the key that the agreement allows for.

If your use of the key is in conjunction with a business, educational, or governmental entity, please contact your IT department for further information.

If you are an individual consumer and purchased this copy of Office Enterprise 2007 from a seller, then you should not have been sold Office Enterprise and should certainly not have been given this Blocked key by the seller.  Your options at this point include returning to the seller to demand the genuine Microsoft Office that you paid for; to return the software to the seller for a refund; or to read the FAQ to see if you qualify for participation in the Office Genuine Offer:

The report is telling us that you have a nongenuine installation of a Volume Licensing-only edition of Office XP Pro with Front Page.  Your installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK).

The report is also showing that your installation of Front Page 2003 is a Volume Licensing edition.

Volume Licensing editions of Office such as your installation of Office XP Pro with Front Page and Front Page 2003 are not to be sold to individual consumers, and are only to be sold to larger businesses, educational institutions, and governmental agencies who need flexibility in installing and deploying many copies of Office.

These Volume Licenses should not be sold to consumers because they are not permanent licenses; they are subject to a current Volume Licensing Agreement that has a finite term, sort of like a lease.  Consumers thinking they purchased permanently licensd software would understandably be upset when their software stopped working at the end of a lease.

If you purchased Office XP Pro with Front Page (and Front Page 2003) thinking you were buying genuine retail Office Professional (and Front Page 2003) for consumers with a permanent license, please return the software to the place of purchase for replacement or a full refund.

You can also review the Office Genuine Advantage FAQ to see if you qualify for the discounted or complimentary replacement program called the Office Genuine Offer:

  • It is an absolutely legitimate license. Why is it being blocked. The license was issued to the Jewish Educational Center and is being used by an employee using a school's computer. All the other machines running the same license are not having an issue. Why is this one and again who blocked the license?
I notice your solution is typical of M$- purchase a license rather than working to resolve the actual issue.

  • Hello kensternation,

Working under the assumption that the JEC has a current and valid Volume Licensing Agreement, please follow these instructions:

    1.  Download and run a keyfinding utility to determine the product key used to install the nongenuine installation of Office XP Pro w/Front Page that is the subject of the report above.  The Magical Jellybean Keyfinder has been around for years and has a great reputation for accuracy.

    2.  Compare the reported product key with the JEC's Volume Licensing Key associated with their current and valid Volume Licensing Agreement.

    3.  If the keys are different (as we would expect given the info provided), please use the procedure in this MS KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895456 to change the nongenuine product key to the genuine product key.

    4.  Restart the computer twice, then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button to clear the OGA Notifier cache and to Validate the newly installed product key.

    5.  Post back here to let us know if this process worked for you.
