I've seen this complaint before. There's a quick fix: put two spaces in between robinson and crusoe.

Both suggestions from Mike and Hans are good work-arounds. Unfortunately, we don't have a feature to "close" or "delete" an account. In order to make the proper change, we'll have to go the backend servers and make db changes directly. There are pro's and con's for this. But I see mostly cons (likely risks). Say, we do make a change in the backend, there are additional checks needed to be done to verify data integrity. I know, it sounds silly but changing the displayname in the backend is not as easy as it sounds. There could be race conditions, cache, etc...
Thanks.

It should unregister it. We also have a sync process daily which updates the displayname in Forums. Robinson, can you change your displayname to: robinson crusoe. I don't see any records of this user in the backend.
If you can't change it, let me know and we'll file a bug on this.
Thanks.
