Any way to identify illegal MSDN licence (for Windows 7 Pro) before Issues? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Is there any way to DEFINITIVELY identify a "possible" MSDN license BEFORE any activation issues are encountered?

I've just installed a copy of Windows 7 Pro purchased from eBay, which activated successfully but now I discover this nightmare MSDN "delayed failure" issue so I'm spooked!

Surely there must be a way to definitively identify a time limited MSDN license from the MGADiag output.  I see others in this forum being told that their license "Looks like an MSDN key".   I don't want to go off on the seller half-cocked, i.e. without being absolutely sure my license is fake and I don't want to wait months for it to fail (after which my refund options on eBay are gone)

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  I'd really like to be able to point the seller and eBay at something CONCRETE and DEFINITIVE in the license/MGADiag that proves it fake, rather than just saying "some people on a Microsoft forum said it looks fake".

My MSDiag.exe results are as follows:

The product ID -222- Indicates a not for resale MSDN account. If you are not the account holder and you purchased this in a retail box, the box and it's contents are counterfeit. Demand an immediate refund from the seller

You will have to purchase a legitimate windows from a legitimate retailer.

It's extremely rare that any windows purchased on ebay is legitimate.

time limited MSDN license. The licenses are not time limited. They get blocked due to abuse. (installed on too many computers.)

  • From your MGA Report: Windows Product ID: 00371-222-2449295-86634

Unfortunately, the Windows 7 Professional license came from a not-for-resale MSDN subscription.  It will likely be classifed as non-genuine and blocked.  Get your refund from the seller immediately!

  • You won't be going off half cocked.  The distribution channel id (222) in the product id is MSDN.  Period.  You have been conned by an eBay seller who handles counterfeit product.  Generally, these are made in China on very good equipment using MSDN product keys harvested from MSDN subscriptions obtained with fraudulent credit cards.  There are tens if not hundreds of thousands of these counterfeit boxes being sold all over the world on online auction sites like eBay and the Amazon Marketplace.  The only safe way to buy Windows 7 at retail is from the Microsoft Store, Amazon Corp., or other vetted merchant.  An individual eBay reseller simply is not in the distribution channel for genuine Microsoft products.
