cheap gateway between OSC2007 and PBX RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I would test the telephony functions of OCS 2007 with gateway to ISDN (S0 basic) on our PBX. Actually I need a cheap gateway for it (out of box solution). Can anyone recommend a solution?

Do I need a Mediation server server? When Yes, can I install it on Windows XP?

    Best Regards

  • If your PBX supports SIP over TCP then the Mediation Server is your "cheap gateway" solution.  You cannot run it on XP, it must run on Windows Server.  See the documention for OS requirements.

If your PBX does not support SIP over TCP or CSTA over SIP (in which case you wouldn't even need a Mediation Server) then I'm afraid you're out of luck.  The gateway solutions required to bridge to the native PBX protocols (CTI, etc.) are generally expensive.  Genesys Labs, Nortel, Siemens, Mitel, and others provide these solutions, but I believe MS is going to be a little more strict on which ones will be certified for OCS.

  • Hi Joerg,

Here you find the MS supported gateways http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/exchange/telephony-advisor.mspx (see supported VOIP Gateways)

  • zj4x4, thanks for your fast answer!

Our PBX does not support SIP over TCP or CSTA over SIP.

Has anyone experience with this pci card and software combination?:

    Dialogic® Diva® BRI

    + Dialogic® Diva® SIPcontrol™ Software

  • Be aware that the list you referenced is for Exchange 2007 and not OCS 2007.

  • Hey zj4x4,

I've tested OCS with the AudioCodes Mediant2000 and with the dialogic timg300. Without any issues.

And here's the link for OCS : http://www.microsoft.com/uc/pdgtrials/default.mspx

    Dieter

  • That's really good to know - thanks for sharing.  I hope more people post up their tested scenarios.  Including the required configurations and describing challenges faced during implementation or use would be helpful for the community as well.  As OCS moves to production it might make sense to have an area on the forum where people can post this type of data.

  • That is a good idea Mike. I will pass it along to Microsoft.

  • Hello,

I found on Internet GrandStream HT 488 and HT 503 (www.grandstream.com) which could be cheap gateways, but didn't make the step to buy one to test if it can work with OCS. Anyone who made the test ? Could be good for demo.

  • Hi all

We don't know which gateway are ocs compatible. That list is only a hardware partners list. it's useful if i would like to buy a gateway, but if i have already a gateway and an ipbx in my company how do i know if it will work with OCS?

I am deploying ocs in my company, and we use mitel lbg gateway and ipbx 3300. Are they ocs compatible? (i will use mediation server)

    thanks
