Disable Outlook Synchronization

Question
-
Hi,
I have several CRM users who have their CRM details integrated with exchange using a centralised service. These users still require access the to CRM outlook client. Is it possible to give them access to the Outlook client, for tasks such as promoting to CRM and setting regarding without having their CRM use Outlook to synchroize to their exchange folders?
We are currently getting double entries for appointments and tasks because we have both services running. I can't disable the centralised service for these users as their schedules are managed by third parties and their exchange calendars must update when their computers are not switched on / connected to the network.
Kind Regards,
Steve Hewison

Will unticking the boxes in the user options also disable the Exchange sync?

Hi,
The duplication issue was being caused by multiple bi-directional interfaces interface with exchange. Every time a record was saved a conflict in the interface processes would create a duplicate.
We've resolved this issue by switching of all other 3rd party interfaces and implement the Omni Riva interface for centralised synchronisation.

Steve

Hi Steve,
To synchronize tasks and appointment between crm and exchange the user needs outlook crm client running. However, there is a 3rd party solution to synchronize without outlook running. I have not used it, so can not vouch whether it works well or not.

Alex,
I have this installed already. But with this and outlook crm running we're getting double entries in exchange.
I need to install the outlook crm so e-mails and appointments can be tracked and promoted to CRM items without enabling the outlook - crm integration.
Regards,
Steve

Hi Steve,
You can configure the sync rule so contacts are not synchronized between crm and outlook/exchange. I'm assuming you get duplicates because the contact exist in outlook/exchange AND in crm???
Here's a short blog I wrote on this:

Contacts are not the issue.
It's appointments the are appearing twice.

I don't think the level of granularity you need is available. It sounds like you need to be able to set one synchronizing service as the 'Master' for tasks and appointments and turn it off for the other. I don't fully understand your environment so I could be wrong. When you install the Outlook client, you can manage the record types that are synchronized through the CRM option menu in the Outlook toolbar and the local datagroups. There are no other controls to manage what gets synchronized. If you are not able to make the integration work for your scenario by leveraging those features, then what you want to do is most likely not available.
