Remote Access to Home PC RRS feed

  • Question

  •

After doing some Googling I can't determine whether I can or cannot access my home PC after I login to the HP Mediasmart Home Server remotely.  Is there a setting in Services on my a6040n that will allow me to access it via the server?  My home PC is an a6040n.

    Thanks guys

  • From what I remember, it depends.   I think you have to have windows xp pro (not home) or Vista Ultimate or above.

Then you must setup your a6040n to all remote access... and of course have it setup on your whs to be able to login remotely.

    Edit:

    This thread goes into detail:

  • Remote Desktop access to home PCs is supported only on operating systems that support that functionality natively. Those operating systems are:
    • Windows XP Professional
    • Windows Media Center Edition
    • Windows Vista Business
    • Windows Vista Enterprise
    • Windows Vista Ultimate
There are hacks that you can apply to gain the support in the OS for those that don't have it natively, but Windows Home Server "knows" that those operating systems don't support this feature and won't let you try to connect.
