Unable to read data disks in another machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

(Perhaps this is a feature request)

What file system is used on the data disks ? If you take a disk out of Vail and put it into a Windows X machine it cannot read it. In WHS V1 this was a good method to recover data.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Steven

  • This is by design. And there's a suggestion already, though there seems to be something odd going on with Connect...
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • As the file system used by Vail seems to be similar to a RAID-0 stripeset and there's additional data saved (like checksums), either you'll have to wait for a program/driver to be released by Microsoft that enables other Windows versions to access files on Vail-HDDs (though very likely you'll need to hook up ALL HDDs to another PC) or to use another Vail Server to access the files there.
