  • Question

  • I bought my laptop a few weeks ago.

Windows Vista is installed on it and so was Microsoft Office 2007, not the trial version. I did not receive any CD or anything for Office with it.

Each time I open Word I am prompted to put in the product key. I have entered it correctly about 100 times yet each time is says:
"The key is incorrect. Please verify that you have the correct key then retype it".

I don't know what to do.

    Please help asap.

Edit: Here is the diagnostic report:
Please do not tell me to phone anyone. I live in Ireland so most likely won't be able to contact them. I just want to know how to fix this asap.

Edit again: I noticed that the product key listed in the diagnostic which is partly blanked out does not match the product key on the sticker on my laptop.

  •  Hello NicoleL88,

Vista and Office are different products. Office does not, automatically, come with Vista.

Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office. (Computers do not usually come with a Full version of Office without paying extra)  If you are getting a prompt to type in a Product Key when opening a Microsoft Office program, it is likely the trial period is over and you'll need to purchase a license (product key) for Microsoft Office.

The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office. If your computer was supposed to come with a Full version of Office, the product key would have come on the documentation that came with your computer.

In addition, your Diagnostic Report shows: "Office Status: 102"
      Code 102 = Trial

  • Hello jhkjblkljkjb,

I do not understand your post

It is a Fact that "Vista and Office are different products. Office does not, automatically, come with Vista"

It is a Fact that "Computer manufacturers often install a trial version of Microsoft Office"

It is a Fact that "The product key affixed to your computer is for Windows Vista (the operating system) and not for Microsoft Office."

It is a Fact that "Code 102 = Trial"

It is a Fact that all the URLs, that I provided, do link to the places I say they do.

Please explain why you believe I am wrong.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
