Cannot activate windows vista RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    Hello,

For the past month or so, I have been having problems with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. I purchased it earlier this spring and now its telling me that my activation key is already in use. My computer was locked down and I had to reformat it. Now its giving me the 30 days to activate once more and I am down to 20 days. This copy of Vista was bought at a Staples store in my region and installed by myself. I have tried the phone but it told me it wasn't a valid copy and that I would have to purchase a new one but I dont think I want to pay another 300$ when I already bought the copy legally.

In order to troubleshoot the "Genuine" status of that specific product key you purchased, I would request that you file a service request here (https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860&)/

You can then have secure communication with the Support Agents to troubleshoot your product key specifically (as we can't post the entire 25 digit product key on a public forum here). They should be able to resolve your issue very shortly!

    Thanks,

  • Did you purchase a "full" or "upgrade" version of Windows Vista?

  • Full version.

  • Open an elevated command prompt (find Command Prompt in the start menu, right-click it and choose "Run as administrator") and type "net start slsvc" (and hit enter).

If you get the following message:

"The Software Licensing service is starting.
The Software Licensing service was started successfully."

try validating again.  You can do that by clicking "Validate Windows" here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/
If you get a different message please run a disk check and then run (no quotes) "sfc /scannow" in an elevated Command Prompt.  And then try validating again.

  • It says the request service has already been started.

I did the check and retried it and got the same message.

  • Try the phone reactivation procedure once more.

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
(w/o the quotes) in the Start Search box in the Start Menu and pressing
    Enter.

The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

  • I've tried it once more and it said it was not able to validate the installation ID.
