Windows update update software or script RRS feed

  • Question

  • Where would I post a question asking how to write a script (or get the installer) to get windows update updated.

You know when you open windows update and it gives you the message that you need to install new windows update software.  I can not find a downloadable .msi or .exe to get this done in the background of our 1000+ managed workstations.

  • Hello ScottNCtneus.

You can ask your question in the Official Scripting Guys Forum at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/ITCG/threads; I can move it there for you if you want.

    Bye.

  • For that many clients I'd also look at WSUS solution.

  • Not sure if WSUS would work for us.  We are a managed service provider with 47 clients, 100 locations and 1131 workstations.  I would have to create one in each domain, then create an external parent to point all the others to, to get that to work?  A script or two (XP & 7), or four (x86 & x64)  that I could push from our remote management software would be much easier in the long run. And not so much work :)

  • I'm not a wsus person but we have 1000's around the world that I believe they manage from one central location so might ask in wsus forum.
