Problems with Home Server 2011 Connector RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have installed WHS 2011 on a HP N40L and the install went fine. Got all the Data moved over from a Home built V1 WHS. The Connector software won't install I get the unexpected error.

    I have

    disabled the firewall on both

Renamed the Network to [myNetworkName] on the server

    disable ipv6 on both machines

made sure the Windows Medial Services are running

used the find my server .Cab

Edited the windows 32 driver exc. file (I don't remember the exact directory)

Read the post here and every other on place I could find

Oh yeah and threatened to shoot it. (empty threat: I don't have a gun)

Client is Window 7 Ultimate on a Dlink DIR655 Ver. b1 router.

I can remote access the server see all the folders etc.

have I missed something? Will it do any good to connect with a crossover cable directly?

    Thanks.

  • Have you checked that the Time Zone, Date, and Time are correct in WHS?

  • ... Renamed the Network to [myNetworkName] on the server ...
If by this you mean you've changed the workgroup name on the server post-install, this is unsupported and known to cause issues. It's also very difficult, since (by design) the normal interfaces by which you would do this are disabled.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • Yes the time zones and times are the same.

  • I did change it post install. I don't mind re-Installing if it is necessary if I can do so without losing data like on the first version.

  • Have you uninstalled the v1 Connector from client computers?

  • Disregard my post above.  Ken has found your problem.

  • Yes I did uninstall the V1 connector.

Can I re-install without moving off all the Data?

  • Reinstall the Server? If so, it will wipe whatever is on the installation HDD (normally C: & D:) but your other disks should be safe although you can install without them connected.

  • Ok did the re-Install. Connector still won't install.

Renamed my network on my computer (client) to WORKGROUP

Made sure the Media Center services were started.

Time, Time zone and date are the same.

Don't know where to go from here. Is there anyway the router could prevent the install?

  • I had a similar issue this weekend after a new build.  Kept erroring/timing out when I tried to load the client software.  The fix for me was to add the server IP address to the login of my browser.

    ie http://192.168.x.x/Connect

This allowed me to load client software, good luck!
