Workaround to avoid purchasing additional licenses for temporary users. RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are performing a CRM implementation involving around 800 users spread over several locations.

Opportunities are imported for an external system via a third party tool. For business reasons, many opportunities cannot be allocated to real users. They first have to be allocated to temporary users, then manually reallocated to physical users.

Since these users will be used only temporary (it will take a couple of days before allocating an opportunity to a real user) and will not have any access to CRM, we are looking for a way to avoid buying additional licenses for them. We are talking about 500 additional temporary users. So even a read-only license would be a large investment at this scale.

Is there any way that would avoid making us purchase additional licenses?

    Thanks!

    Fadi

  • Hi Fadi,

One option is to use an external portal with just the functionality these 500 users need. Microsoft has a 'portal accelerator' that is a good starting point for any type of external facing portal.

The above works very well if these additional users are lets say external partners that need only a small subset functionality of crm.
