  • about several months ago i bought a new computer, loaded with all the security update that i know i should have. a few months later the new windows update automatically updated my computer with service pack 3.
after its installation, it began to request for me to activate my computer, so willingly i did, or atleast attempted to. it got to the point where i need my product key, so i inserted it. and until now IT HAS BEEN  TELLING ME THAT IT IS INCORRECT!!! it gave me 30 days for me to activate my windows. thinking that sp3 was the problem i uninstalled it. it took away the 30 day warning ,but MY WINDOWS IS STILL NOT ACTIVATED!!!!
please! will someone please tell me what i should do???

    thanks in advance,

  • If you cannot successfully activate via the internet, then choose the alternative option to "activate by phone".

How to activate Windows XP by phone:

To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click 'Start', point to 'All Programs', point to 'Accessories', point to 'System Tools', and then click 'Activate Windows'.
      Or,
click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area (aka system Tray).
      Or,
clicking Start button, then Run, and type in "oobe/msoobe /a", then press the Enter key located on your keyboard.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

    4. When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
"You have successfully activated your copy of Windows".

  • RussellBuena,

Please follow these steps for assistance:

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of  Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key printed on the CoA.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

  • Kintaroh,

Your installed copy of Office XP Pro w/Front Page is being identified as Nongenuine.

Please uninstall it as soon as possible and consider purchasing a genuine copy of Office!

If Office being nongenuine is a surprise to you, please post back for more advice on how to solve the problem, including the possibility of being eligible for free replacement software.
