  • It is a client .net winform that enables users to configure a local nttp newsreader to use the forums. More information is here: "August 09 Release - List of Forum Fixes and Changes" above. The utility is in beta test now. It is beta and there are known bugs the team is working on for the next montly update. An updated download will be available early next week.

  • Yes. It should work with NNTP clients such as Windows Live Mail. It's not an add-in. It's an application that you run in the background before opening your NNTP client. You use the same login (live) credentials as you would use here in Forums.

    Thanks.

  • Sounds awesome! Will it work with Windows Live Mail for example, or other mail clients as an add-in or something?

  • We're fixing that. We plan to have another version sometime this week that has the minimize button.

  • Cool. Don, you are great.

Is it too late to ask for minimize to tray? :)

  • It appears that it's no longer available for download from the Connection site. Is this because it had too many issues and we should wait for a fixed version or am I just missing the link?

  • We'll be enabling the download link from the connect site sometime this week. Part of that will include a different EULA and a minimize button. (Systray)

  • Can some of these things instead come via Optional Components in WAU.

  • Get the following error after clicking the start button:

An unhandled exception of type 'System.TypeInitializationException' occurred in NntpBridge.exe
Additional information: The type initializer for 'LiveId.LiveIdHelper' threw an exception.

Which Live ID add-ons do you have enabled?  What version are they?

FWIW I have installed the latest WL Essentials and have left  Windows Live ID Sign-in Control active (ActiveX) but disabled Windows Live ID Sign-in Helper (BHO).   WindowsLiveLogin.dll  7.250.4232.0.  The WLIDSVC.exe service has the same version.  Previously I had been doing that (avoiding the Helper, though I can't remember why) but after the install and after all the recent changes concerning Sign-in Assistant had decided to try using it again.  Since then I had been having frequently hung IE9 sessions opening Answers threads in new tabs.  According to Resource Monitor's Analyze Wait Chain command each time this was happening there were deadlocked threads in the new task.  So I recently switched it back.   Time will tell if that is my solution for my problem symptom.

Perhaps you should be grateful that you're getting a more definite less disruptive diagnostic than mine?  <eg>   FWIW I haven't used the bridge for a long time, certainly not since updating WLE, so I can't say how relevant this observation will be for your case.
