Lost CD but got Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I have several genuine XP Pro and one genuine 2k3 Server licences.

The 2k3 Server is running fine but I have upgraded one of the Clients with new GFX Card and Hard Drive and another with a new Hard Drive.

Consequently, these two Clients running XP Pro need to be reinstalled.

    Now here is the problem:

I have my Product Keys on the original Certificate of Authenticity for all these machines but no XP Pro CD.

The new OEM XP Pro (with SP2) CD (purchased recently to help solve the problem) will not accept my original Product Key and having already purchased 6 (six) Product Keys I feel aggrieved in having to purchase futher copies of already owned software.

How do I reinstall XP using my already purchased Product Keys without purchasing another copy for each machine?

    or

How do I determine which version of XP pro I need to reuse these Product Keys?

Any and all help will be appreciated and gratefully received

  • DJ Rich T,

It sounds like you are trying to use a Volume Licensing Key (VLK) to install XP Pro using OEM CD (media).  VLKs are accepted only by VLK installation media, and OEM installation media will only accept OEM Product Keys.

If all computers have OEM Certificates of Authenticity (COA) for XP Pro, and you have an OEM XP Pro CD (media) available to you, then do your installations with the OEM media and use the OEM Product Keys found on the COAs.
