How to recover data from external hard drive in Windows XP?

Question
-
Hello guys, I'm in need of help here.
Recently I decided to format external hard drive to make backups for my laptop . However, after I did this soon, realized that I had forgotten to make backups for a folder of files on it.I would really hate to lose the data.
So I need a way to recover those files on the drive. Any suggestions will be appreciated!Thursday, April 28, 2011 10:02 AM

Hi Ace,
Don't write anything on the damaged drive.
Recuva is a good free solution.(http://www.piriform.com) It doesn't work in very extreme cases though. If that's the problem there are more serious software solutions for this, like Tenorshare Data Recovery, but they aren't free(cost $20).I think it cost a bit but safer.(http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/index.htm)
Another possibility is looking for a repair shop that does this kind of thing. Some of them specialize in data recovery and can restore the files in almost any situation(but no guarantee and cost a lot of money, usually cost $1000 more or less). Formatting won't make the filess in a hard drive erase permanently. Those files are still stored in the hard drive, they're just invisible or inaccessible. So,You can recover it with a data recovery program.
