Not Genuine... Help Please?

Question
-
I am not familiar with all the computer jargon as I am just a regular pc user. Here are the details:
I bought the laptop in fall of 2006 as an open box item (it was an actual display unit) at Best Buy. I never received any cd's with the computer and it was already running XP pro on it when I got it. I have done one reset on it once before (being walked thru it with Toshiba cust supp) In 2007 I bought the Microsoft suite for word and excel that is genuine, but it is the OS that is not genuine isn't it? And if it is, any idea how it isn't? Is it because I did the one reset, or because of what Best Buy put on there when it was on the shelf? Please help.
Thanks

V. Key,
Please follow the guidance Dan provided. It is important you provide us with the MGA Results so we may analyze what you are experiencing. This will allow us to provide you with a direction to take. Also in the same token Motherboard love has a good point as well. First most computer manufacturers usually have a hidden partion which contains the recovery media. This will allow the manufacturer to walk you thru a system recovery should a customer contact them. Next some manufacturers provide a program which will allow customers to burn their own recovery media. Also some manufacturers do not maintain recover media discs past three years. Please contact Toshiba @ (800) 457-7777 and explain your situation as you provided here. Also you may go to their website here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp . Request a copy of the recovery media to be sent to you.

V.Key,
We request all users initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool to try and identify the issue you may be having.Download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.
Step 2 is tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) affixed to the computer, or affixed to the outer boxtop of the retail XP packaging. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, Media Center, or another version or edition of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key that may be printed on the CoA.
The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.
