cannot activate windows vista

Question
-
I have a dell PC with windows vista and it has the installation disc, I use this disc to instal in two different computers and after the installation I activated them with the key that is on the computer box.
Lastly I installed this windows vista in a Compaq computer and I cannot activate windows. I called Microsoft support and I gave my product key and they told me that that key does not work. I am 100% sure that I used the number as it's on the computer box. My question is who is responsible for this problem? Compaq or Microsoft?
Any help will be appreciated

We can't tell (yet) - but you cannot use a disk from one manufacturer on a different make, and expect no problems.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

You cannot use a Dell OEM Windows Vista disc to install Windows Vista on a Compaq computer. You need to obtain the original Compaq/HP Windows Vista disc for the Compaq computer. Please see: Looking for Recovery Discs?
