Advice Request - Workflow, Campaign, or Something Else? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to CRM and have been asked to find a way to automate sending council newsletters (there are 25 councils, each gets a different newsletter) and make it easy to report statistics on all of them, separately and combined. Our IT guy suggested using a campaign but he doesn't know anything about them.

It seems campaigns are more for marketing and selling, not sending newsletters. Is this something better handled with workflows? We don't know anything about those, either. What I've found in the Help documentation seems aimed at people who already understand what campaigns and workflows are used for.

  • So you want to make a Marketing List for each group getting a Newsletter.  Then the easiest thing to do would be to make a Quick Campaign (essentially a one-shot campaign) for email.  You can then distribute the Quick Campaign after you make the email template for your newsletter.

However, CRM isn't great at doing mass emails by itself.  CoreMotives, ClickDimensions, or Dynamics Marketing all handle bulk email (like newsletters) better for CRM than CRM does itself, but they all cost money on top.

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

We do have ClickDimensions, and already have Marketing Lists for each of the councils - the only things I know how to use reasonably well in CRM. I'll look into Quick Campaigns as the solution.

    Thanks again!

  • sounds good, though I would recommend digging into ClickDimensions, as you will get prettier email newsletters out of it than vanilla CRM.

  • I already use ClickDimensions for the newsletters but the boss wanted a way to track the statistics easily for all of the newsletters we send (25 newsletters) in one report. The IT guy suggested campaigns for that purpose so that's why I came here. :)

I'm about to watch a video on using campaigns in CRM and then will watch one about Quick Campaigns. I'll try a test one after that.
