Using idenitcal picklist on more than one entity RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Is there a simple way of using a picklist on more than one form. I do not want to have to maintain different lists in different entities.

Specifically,  I have a picklist "Product Type" on the product entity, I want to use the same pick list with the same values on Quote Lines, Order Lines and Contract Lines forms, so that this can be used to filter product lookup on these forms.

    Regards

  • You should consider creating a custom entity and adding the lookup to the multiple entities.

That would be the easiest way to maintain the product type list in one central location.

  • Hi,

There are a few things can do.

1- Instead of using a picklist you can create a custom entity and then create relationships to Quote Lines etc... This will add a lookup to the new custom entity and you will only have to maintain this custom entities through CRM (adding, deleteing, editing...).

2- Perhaps you can create some sort of utility that you can export a picklist from one entity attribute and import the values to another. This can be done through the Metadata SDK.

    Hope this makes sense.

  • Thanks to both of you. Already considered a custom entity happy to go that route but had already setup picklist in products so was hoping for another simple way of doing it. Still if that's the best way then so be it.
