CRM 2011 Outlook Client Installation Error - Solution

  • For future reference:

    The CRM 2011 Outlook Client installation program has the Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable as a dependancy. Unfortunately, if there is a newer version than 10.0.30219 installed (I had 10.0.40219), the installation will fail. Even worse, the CRM Installation Log file does not really reveal the error.  it provides:  Installation of Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime failed. Exit code: 5100. Result: Asia. Manually downloading the vcredist_x86.exe file from the URL in the Log file and running it reveals a more helpful error: A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine.

    Uninstalling the newer version and allowing the CRM install to install it's own version fixed the installation error.

    what do you mean this is fixed in rollup 6?

    you have to install the base client first and it fails so you cannot even get to install the rollup

  • Thank you.  I ran into this exact same error when except when installing the server, not the Outlook client.  I also had 10.0.40219.  I unistalled and it worked fine. 

    This is a new virtual server that we just made with Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise OS.  I have installed CRM 2011 on premise with the same ISO installation files 30 or 40 times.  This was the first time I saw this error. 

    Another great update that is suposed to fix stuff that actually breaks stuff...

  • Hi All,

    Try this with RU6 (as a pre- requisite) and then jump to RU8 (Yes, RU7 doesnt have any manual updates) and there arises the same thing "Version difference between the C++ libraries"...

    The story goes on when you try to configure the SSRS via the SRS connector on SQL 2012 for CRM 2011.

    Why cant they #Microsoft just get one general fix and be done with it?

    I had the exact same issue, but while installing the CRM reporting exentsions on the SSRS box. I had to uninstall the x86 and x64 versions of C++ runtime after which I was able to run the installer successfully.

  • You can also download the latest versions of the VC++ redistributables and replace the ones in the Redist/VCRedist folder with the new ones. No need to uninstall.

  • it looks like these C++ also can cause an install failure

  • I have completely uninstalled all traces of CRM on the computer including the registry.  Uninstalled all traces of the Visual C++ Redistributable.  Did this for 3 computers - Windows 7 OS with Outlook 2010 x64.  I am unable to install CRM for Outlook.

    Have you found a solution. I am at the same point; error log shows fails to install C++ Redistributable; I've uninstall all prior installations.
