Windows XP

Question
-
I had a computer built for our business back in 2000. In 2004 it crashed and I had someone fix it. He got my machine up and running but apparantly put a bootleg copy of Windows XP on it for whatever reason. I have a legal Windows XP Professional CD and Key Code already. How do I go about fixing this problem with what I already have without losing important information off of my computer? Any help would be Greatly Appreciated!
Thanks,
Debbie
