How to read/analyze/understand windows .log files

Question
-
Hi
I am working in a project in corporate company where it is very important to understand/analyze .log files for project purpose. I tried to search tools/software in Microsoft site but did not get anything which can help me to understand .log files.
There are some tools (Ultraadded and Free Log File Viewer:Log4Net Log4J NLog) are available in different sites but not sure that I should install software from different sites or not as we should prefer Microsoft products.
So could you please help me if I may get knowledge/idea about how to analyze windows .log files or can install any trusted software for it? It's very urgent , so please help. thanks in advance.

For general windows I'd try over here.
or also ask in a forum for the technology that writes the log file.

LogParser is GREAT - especially once you figure out what data you are looking for, and the format of the log file :)
