prerequisites to install office 2007 upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am re-installing a messed up system. It has Office 2007 (an upgrade) installed on it. I will uninstall Office 2007 before a erase the HDD. After I re-install Windows XP Professional, I want to get Office 2007 back on it. I have the Upgrade disk, and I have the original disk for Office 2003.

Do I have to install Office 2003 first then upgrade to Office 2007, or can I do the install with the Office 2007 Upgrade disk and it will ask for the original Office 2003 disk or something else it needs to validate that the upgrade is ok?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Hello,

Dfernandez77 thank you for visiting the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum.  The purpose of this forum is the support of Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program.  Your question is off topic.  I suggest posting your question to one of the Office newsgroups here: http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?d=1  or http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.office.misc&lang=en&cr=US

If you should have other non-WGA questions please visit our other communities for helpful information here:  http://www.microsoft.com/atwork/community.mspx .  Thank you for visiting the forum.

Basically you will need to install Office 2003. Next visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine then locate the "Validate Office" and "Validate Windows" buttons in the upper right hand corner of the window. Please validate both Windows and Office. Next I would restart your system. Please visit http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and update the fresh Windows XP Professional installation. There will be several updates which in turn will build upon themselves. This process will take some time and require a few restarts of the system. After you have installed all the security and other updates please proceed to Office updates.

    Take care Dfernande3z

  • I am uncertain whether I would qualify for an upgrade version of Office 2007 because my Microsoft Works 8.5 is an OEM version and some software developers do not allow an upgrade when the version you bought was OEM. I ran the validate office program you suggested above, and it stated that I had a valid program. Does this mean I would qualify for the upgrade version?
