Difficult to turn off Live Mesh

  I have experienced a problem, connected to the "Mesh Operating Environment". The service is running all the time, even when there are no new items to sync. It is consuming a lot of processing power on my laptop, slowing it down more than I can accept. Turning Mesh off was difficult. Using "Work offline" and "Exit" did not stop this service from running. I had to kill it three times in Windows Task Manager before it disappeared. I run Windows Vista.
  
  Any comments or solutions to this?
