Invalid Product Key RRS feed

  • Question

  • My Microsoft Office is locked due to not entering a product. I located the product key on the bottom of the laptop, but when I enter it, it says that the key is invalid. I have read the other post and downloaded Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool and here is the information:

  • Hello AliciaJ,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 102
    2007 Microsoft Office system - 100 Genuine

    OGA Version: Registered,
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 77F760FE-153-80070002_7E90FEE8-175-80070002_025D1FF3-230-1_B4D0AA8B-920-80070057

    As you have discovered, the Windows XP Home Edition product key that is printed on the Windows XP Home Certificate of Authenticity affixed to the bottom of your netbook is just for the installation of Windows XP Home Edition that is installed on the netbook---it will not activate your Office installation.

    The Office installation on your HP/Compaq Mini is a special OEM-installed Trial of Office.  Depending upon the product key entered, it can become one of several different Office editions.

    Your current situation could be one of two scenarios:

    1.  You have never activated your Trial of Office.  If so, please look in the materials that came with the HP/Compaq netbook for either some documentation with the Trial product key on it, or instructions on how to get a Trial product key.

    2.  You did activate the Trial and it has now run its course and Office will no longer create new documents nor save any edits to existing documents.  If so, you have to purchase a license, in the form of a perpetual Product Key, for the edition of Office that you would like to activate.  The type of license you need to purchase to match the special OEM installation is called a MediaLess Licensing Kit (MLK); it is a CD case-sized product that has only a Product Key inside.  There is no CD inside, thus the term "Medialess."
