Discuss Pros and Cons of the Imagine Cup here RRS feed

  • Question

  • As I've stated in my earlier thread, the Imagine cup is an awesome attempt at gathering talented students across the globe for a common, noble cause. Hats off to the management!

But there are some areas where the programme gives a feel of the disadvantages of the Sponsoring Events marketing method. And this is bad for a very obvious reason. The participants are not given the freedom to choose the technology of their liking. It is compulsory for a participant to use the Microsoft family technologies. For instance, for creating a dynamic web site, the LAMP setup (Linux Apache MySQL, Perl and PHP) would offer a lot more control than the ASP .NET method. Of course ASP .NET has its own advantages and disadvantages, but the point to be noted here is, the participant here (at Imagine Cup) should be given the freedom to choose the technologies of his liking.

This issue of discussing the pros and cons of the Imagine Cup can be extended a lot. Readers, reply to this thread  and discuss 1 Advantage and 1 Disadvantage (or more properly where the Imagine Cup needs to work upon itself) at a time and just be more aware of the effect of the Imagine Cup!
