Genuine Office 2007: Valid or not? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased "Office Home and Student 2007" edition from a store in India. The copy says "for distribution only in India." I uninstalled older office versions (which had an invalid VLK) and installed the one I just purchased.

    When I use MS Word, it shows a message saying "This copy of Office is not genuine". So, I ran the MCAdiag.exe and here are the results:

    I am just wondering if I am missing any step because MCAdiag.exe seems to suggest that the copy is genuine, whereas I am still getting an error message on MS Word that the copy is not genuine.

  • Hello NiketK,

    Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 100 Genuine
    Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 - 100 Genuine
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0

    Your current Office installation is showing as a genuine retail license for Office Home and Student 2007.

    Occasionally a previous nongenuine installation of Office will leave behind remnants that have to be cleaned up before the OGA Notifications Utility can see and report that your current Office installation is now genuine.

    Please work thru the methods in this MS KB article:  http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/919895/.  Usually the items checked in Methods 1 and 2 are OK, and you have to execute the steps in Method 3 in order to clean up after the nongenuine Office.

    After running the FixIt in Method 3, restart the computer, then open an Office H&S 2007 program.  At that point you should see the Activation Wizard, so follow the steps to activate online normally.

    After activation, restart once more, then visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  Once validation is complete, open up an Office program to verify that you are no longer receiving nongenuine notices.
