Power Pack 1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client running the OEM version of WHS SP2.  I want to use the off-site USB drive backup feature that was added by Power Pack 1, but it does not appear to be available.  The Add/Remove Programs list shows Power Pack 2 and Power Pack 3 installed, but not Power Pack 1.  Since PP1 was supposedly a prerequisite for PP2, I don't understand how this is possible.

I'm considering uninstalling PP3 and PP2, installing the MS Download of PP1 and then letting the system update itself for PP2 and PP3, but don't know if this is a smart move or not.  Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks.

  • Ken,

Thank you so much for your response.  I didn't realize I needed to add the USB drive before the server itself would show up on the Computers & Backup tab.

I'm disappointed, though, to find that the "server backup" does not include the individual PC backups.  My concern is a worst-case scenario like a fire where the server and the PCs are lost and everything needs to be recovered from scratch.  I assume something like Backup Exec or an imaging program like Shadow Protect could be used, but I wonder if there is a less-expensive third party solution that would allow a complete restoration of the server (and then the PCs).  This is the only WHS I have installed--all my other clients are on SBS 2003 or SBS 2008--so I'm not familar with best practices for disaster recovery.

    Thanks again for the help.
