KB949810 fails to install

Question

Hello I validated the copy of Office 2007 but the automatic updates consistenly asks me to install KB949810. It downloads it and then when trying to install it fails. I have a legit copy of office 2007 that I got through school. What can I do?

Hello studentoflife75,
Even though the Update that is not correctly installing is the Office Genuine Advantage (KB949810) update, the problem is still with the Windows Update process so we have to fix the Windows Update problem.
Please try the Microsoft FixIt for Windows Update in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
Post back to let us know if it worked for you.

Please visit Microsoft Genuine Advantage – Diagnostic Site and click on Start Diagnostics. Let us know if this procedure resolved the issue.

Hello and thank you for the suggestion.
I tried the default setting for Fixit but it did not work. I still get the message from Windows update that KB949810 is ready for install. I'm not sure if I want to try the aggresive.

Hello studentoflife75,
You can also try posting in the Windows Update Answers Forum at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads for additional assistance. (eventhough the URL shows it to be specific to Windows Vista, it has changed and should now be the shared Windows Update forum for XP, Vista and Win 7)
Thanks,
