Windows 7 Ultimate 7600 32-bit not genuine? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, I am having trouble with my laptop saying windows is not genuine. I bought my version of Windows 7 Ultimate from my college's Tech Store so I am pretty sure it is genuine. When this problem came up, I am also unable to connect to the internet on my laptop. I have tried running slui, but it crashes and says it is an "invalid win32 application". I also tried renaming that tokens.dat file and then running slui.exe again but now it says an "unauthorized change was made to windows".

I have tried recreating the License Store from the steps above, but it slui.exe crashes and says it is an "invalid win32 application". After modifying the tokens.dat file using the directions above, it now crashes and says "an unauthorized change has been made to windows[...]Please reinstall."

    Not good :(
First try a System Restore back to a time when the system worked properly (say that 13th April?) - if that works, then fine....
If not, then from past experience, the advice in this error message is probably the way to go - since you have a Retail install disk, and have not yet installed SP1, it's a relatively easy procedure as well, and should leave you with your data intact.
What you need to do is a repair install (or what MS delights in calling an In-place Upgrade).
    Here's a commonly-referenced set of instructions...

Interesting - you are having problems with your internet connection (at least as far as the WGA process is concerned).
You also have other problems with the system - there are parts of the report missing.

It looks to me as if your Licensing Store may be corrupted....

    Recreate the Licensing Store
        1) Click Start button.
        2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
        3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
        4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
        5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
        6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
        7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
        8) Type: net start sppsvc
        9) Type: slui.exe
        10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Run MGADiag again, and post the report

You also have a problem with your Office installation - it's non-genuine, being based on a Blocked Volume License Key.
