  • since you want it as a button on the ribbon, you can create a silverlight application. This will recieve the current guid as a parameter. Then you can either use retrive message to read the details of the current activity or using xrm client side api read the values of the controls on the form. You can then open the cloned record in a new window using the instructions from sdk on opening records through url.

You may also want to check the passing paramters through url section as well as that will let you open the activity form with prepopulated values passed as the parameters in the link.

  • Hi Hari,

You can create a workflow that would clone the record as per http://xrmsolutions.blogspot.com.au/2011/11/clone-record-mscrm-2011.html. The downside is you need to create a workflow for each type of activity that need to be cloned. Also, this approach will only clone the data from the fields that are displayed on the form.

Once you created the workflow, you can trigger it from a ribbon button click (see this post for details http://crmallied.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/triggering-workflow-from-ribbon-button.html).

I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.
