Cant Copy Large Files: Shared folders report 13gb free when I have over 1TB of free space! (primary drive is 500 GB) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have shared folders mapped as network drives on my Vista Machine, and it reports that it  each of the shares have only 13 GB free even though the WHS console says I have over 1TB free.  My primary hard-drive is 500 gigs, so the network drive reports it's max size as 480 GB (500-20 for the system partition).

Therefore when i try to copy over large files (20gb each) it will not let me.  How do i fix this so that I can access the remaining 1TB of free space?   Since this is a single file, I can't use any of the hacky solutions that include using robocopy instead of windows explorer.

    thanks.

    Matt.

    thanks.

The issue is due to the way Power Pack 1 handles files.  Please check Drive Extender Not Migrating Data for details.  Also, at the end of the thread, there is an app written by Theo van Elsberg that will "force" the data to move.  Also, MS is aware of the issue.

  • Hello Math,

On a two disk system, the utility (LZreallocator) can only force WHS to move non-duplicated files of the primary disk. So if you have all shares set for duplication this might help much. You have then three options:

    • Set duplication of for one or more shares.
    • Replace your primary disk with one that has more capacity (not practical)
    • Add an additional disk to the pool.

    Then run LZreallocator again.

Please keep us posted on the results?
    Thanks :-)
