Genuine Validation Issue

Question
-
I have been having validation issues for about a year. This computer came with Vista and I bought a Windows 7 update which was due to come out in 3 months. I have tried everything but it keeps coming back. I used to have a Validation Code of 0 but now I see that it changed. I remember uninstalling an update that started KB97. Please help because this is so annoying.

I rebooted. Started the Software Protection Service. The settings were as you described. The service started. Fifteen minutes later, I checked the service and it was off. I restarted it and ran MGADiag.

The implication here is that there's something in the boot that's preventing the service from starting- either properly, or at all.It can be a nightmare working out which startup item it is causing this problem. The best first attempt is to run a program such as SilentRunners and see if that shows anything untoward that may be conflicting. The script is available from www.silentrunners.org - please read the FAQ first (note that you will need to right-click on the download link, and select 'Save target as'.If you elect to run it, please do so in Full mode and upload the output to your SkyDrive or other favoured fileshare site, and post a link to it in your reply (it's way too long to happily exist in the thread - and you may want to delete it later).

Click on Startin the Search box, typeSERVICES.MSCand hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost immediately stop again?Post back with your results, and a new MGADiag report. If it doesn't start, then please do the following...Please open an Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following commands....net start sppsvcsc qc sppsvcsc queryex sppsvcsc qprivs sppsvcsc qsidtype sppsvcsc sdshow sppsvcHere are some instructions to make life easier :)1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the CP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. That seemed to help. When I first tried your suggestion, I got an error that there were not enough resources available. I often get that error when I am running Visual Studio 10 on my computer with the following specs:
4 GB Ram, 32 bit operating system

I'm a little confused by your latest report. The highlighted timestamp is the same as the one in your earlier report, but the data associated has changed. Please attempt validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and see what happens. Then post back with a new MGADiag report.

The software protection service keepsw stopping. When I try to start it, I get error #1450 :insufficient resources .. This I am sure is caused by Visual Studio 10. To start software protection services, I must reboot.

I doubt very much it has anything to do with Visual Studio - I have it installed here with no problems.
The latest report is showing an Access Denied error - of a type which is often associated with disk problems.
Please run a full CHKDSK and SFC scan....
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
CHKDSK C: /R
and hit the Enter key.
You will be told that the drive is locked,
and the CHKDSK will run at he next boot - hit the Y key, and then reboot.
The chkdsk will take a few hours depending on the size
of the drive, so be patient! After the CHKDSK has run, Windows should boot normally
(possibly after a second auto-reboot) - then run the SFCSFC -System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is foundSelect Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, typeSFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
Post an MGADiag report with details of any error messages encountered.Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth

Did CHKDSK show any problems?
Look in the Event Viewer - Windows Application Logs - for Wininit events - the CHKDSK log will be there.
copy the results to your response.
Your latest report looks OK again

That looks fine - I was concerned that there may be bad sectors showing, but there's only a smal set of minor errors, which have been cleared (probably caused by a forced shutdown at some point)
I assume that your machine is still showing as genuine?
If so, then I think we can sign this one off as solved.

Hmm - these sorts of variable errors are often due to hardware problems (perhaps bad RAM, or on older systems, bad capacitors on the motherboard).
Please check your RAM using MemTest86+ (www.memtest.org) Download the ISO file and burn the CD from it (or download the USB version and use the tool) then boot the system and run it for a few hours. See what it reports.

That's to be expected with the error you're showing at present.Click on Startin the Search box, typeSERVICES.MSCand hit the Enter key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.Look in the console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select Properties.make sure that the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.Try starting the service now - do you get an error message? In the CP Windows, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I rebooted. Started the Software Protection Service. The settings were as you described. The service started. Fifteen minutes later, I checked the service and it was off. I restarted it and ran MGADiag.
