CRM 2011: Security Role - "Post" + "Follow" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I just noticed two new entries on the core records tab of security roles which are called "Post" + "Follow". I also found out that they are not shown by default in a standard installation.

Has anyone have an idea why they are not allways shown and what the meaning of these are?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi CTO_111

These were introduced with rollup 5 and are to control the 'follow' and 'post' functions within the new activity feeds solution that was released at the same time as rollup 5. You can download it for free here:

    http://pinpoint.microsoft.com/en-us/applications/microsoft-dynamics-crm-activity-feeds-12884926310

NOTE: you must apply rollup 5 before you can successfully import this solution.

  • Hi cto_111,

In addition to Rob Boyers answer, this is a new feature introduced with the latest package which allows users to consume information stored in CRM in a social way, similar to the way users consume information in Twitter and Facebook.

"Following" a record in CRM is similar to "Following" a Twitter user or "Like"-ing a post in Facebook.  Any updates to the records being followed will post it to the users wall.  You can also "Post" information to another users' wall or to the wall of an individual record.  These Posts will then be visible on other users' walls that are following the specific record.

This is actually a really great feature from Microsoft as it allows users to view ALL updates that are relevant to them in a single screen rather than having to click to different areas (contacts, accounts, opportunities, etc.) to view the latest updates.  Also, it reduces the number of email notifications that need to be generated through workflows as users can get to the information they need when they want to rather than being spammed constantly by the system.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Matt
