Office 2003 fails Genuine Advantage Diagnostics RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Dell Dimension 8400 running Windows XP Media Center Edition.  I have Dell installed Microsoft Office Basic which is activated and the tests say is genuine.  I have worked for hours with Dell technicians to resolve the problem that

    Failed

    Office validation ActiveX loaded

    Failed

    Validation Self-help ActiveX loaded

and I cannot download the International Character Toolbar.  I and the Dell technicians have done everything including restoring my computer to its factory settings.  My Microsoft XP Media Center Edition validates fine but Office will not.  It is activated.  We have run diagnostics and clicked resolve, turned off firewall, adjusted all IE activex and download settings, logged in as administrator, cleared cache, reinstalled office, run repair of office.  I am unable to go to the download site by bypassing validation.  It says the page will not load.  I see many problems with this on various web sites but so far nothing has worked for me.  Any ideas? Thanks, JV1

  • Microsoft resolved my problem.  My broadband provider, on the automatic TCIP settings did not allow the client for Microsoft networks.  The technician put in a static DNS server rather than having it generate automatically.  They added Microsoft Client to my network.  This allowed Office to pass Genuine Advantage screening and validate.

  • Stephen,

My provider is Comcast.  Microsoft put a client for Microsoft Networks in the Local area connection Properties of Network connections.  They put in two DNS server numbers that apparently are always available.  This forced recognition of the Office software and the complete Genuine Advantage program ran and validated.  Ironically, my sister has Comcast set on obtaining IP and DNS automatically and the validation of her office worked without a hitch.  Her toolbar download worked without a hitch.   I'm not sure why my system presented this problem that took technicians so long to resolve.  Since my computer was reset to factory settings and Comcast loaded automatically, it's rather strange.   JV1
