Office XP developer cannot be classified as genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I using Office XP developer with FrontPage since I buy in 2001, together with Windows XP and my PC from same year too.
My Windows XP go down at Saturday with LSASS error.  I manage to format and reinstall Windows XP include my product key and download sp1a so windows update works.
Then I use my Office XP Deveoper CD with FrontPage and key to activate, and all goes well. And I was so very happy.
But after a Microsoft Update of Office XP to sp3 plus many other things, the genuine tells its a copy, but in Word the menu: Help, Activate Product says: The product has already been activated. And thats true, bc I activate it after install from CD.
Please tell me, what I do wrong, so Word dont complain everyday I starting it. I try to calling the shop here in Denmark, Ravenholm, but shop have stop some times ago I think, because I cant find anywhere. I do have the invoice and original CD's and product keys and so on, and therefor dont understand the message: "Many customers are surprised to learn that their Office software cannot be classified as genuine."
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello Joakim Dalby,

Your mgadiag report is showing that your installation of Office XP Professional is not activated.  Lately, we have noticed a lot of folks posting with similar situations, that their longtime installations of Office XP have suddenly become "nongenuine" due to becoming not activated.

Most of the time, following Method 2 in the MS KB article takes care of the problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/903275/en-us

Please try it and post back to tell us if it worked for you.

  • Hey Dan

I format and install my Windows XP and Office XP last Saturday, so I hope that is not long time.
I really worry a lot for delete the file Data.dat or rename it and move to another folder, because what will I do, if Microsoft dont want to Activate my Office XP Product again bc I did activate last Saturday or now I playing a hacker that delete the file, then the problem is must bigger after 50 days when all functions stops. And I guess that another format and install properly not help for a new Activate again. What kind of problems have people when they delete and activate after?

    Best regards

  • Hello joakim Dalby,

I understand that going to www.microsoft.com/genuine and clicking on the Validate Office button does the equivalent of "clearing the cache" for the OGA Notifications Utility.  Try this and let us know how it goes! :-)

  • Hey Dan

I have follow your advice yesterday and received: Validation Successful!
But the message is stilling comming today:
Microsoft Office must be activated before validation can determine that Office is genuine.
I have also click Learn more and received: Validation Successful!

How can I get the message to go away, when I everyday start my Word program?

I still hope you can help me, here is a fresh report.
Remember, that my computer was c-drive format and Windows XP installed nearly 14 days ago, follow up with sp1a, sp2, sp3 and a lot extra. Office XP Professional have sp3 and a lot extra, all from Microsoft Update.

    Big thanks in advance.
    Best regards
