Click Start, type 'cmd' in the Search/Run box, and right click on the CMD icon at the top of the results pane. Select Run as Administrator. When the cmd window opens type 'sfc /scannow' at the prompt and hit Enter. When the scan completes close the cmd window.
If that does not clear the error, try using System Restore to restore your computer to a date before this message appeared.

I was able to uninstall it, but receive an error message when i try to download it. i tried both the website and my updates.
ksMonday, October 24, 2011 8:40 AM -
...and what is the EXACT error message?
Are you getting any other Windows UPdates OK?
Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed SlothMonday, October 24, 2011 8:43 AMModerator -
Error(s) found: Code 8E5E03FA, and the website one just said update not installed failed. optional updates go thru, but none of the security updates that it says i have are.
ksMonday, October 24, 2011 8:49 AM -
Click on Start, All Programs
In accessories go to command prompt, right click, click run as administrator.
type in: net stop cryptsvc
press enter & wait for service to stop.
type in: ren catroot2 catrootold
press enter
reboot
then try Windows Updates again - it will probably take a while to scan for updates. Uncheck all, then just select the KB971033 update for install, and see what happens.

ksThat looks better – all you should need to do now is go and manually validate the machine, to clear the remaining (highlighted) error messageWhen it passes, you will be offered MSE and IE9 – you don’t have to take them!
